Local Filmmaker Brings Sci-fi and Horror to Albuquerque

I had the chance to talk to Kurly Tlapoyawa, a local filmmaker and actor who has already directed and starred in a number of horror films, including Slumber Party Slaughterhouse and Wedding Slashers. Tlapoyawa also writes a regular film column for the Weekly Alibi.

Currently, Tlapoyawa owns and manages Burning Paradise Video, a video shop that sells DVDs, shirts and other paraphernalia essential to the true movie fanatic. The shop is located just accross the University of New Mexico along Harvard Drive. The shop is open weekdays from 11 am to 8 pm.

Here are some photos of Tlapoyawa at his store:

Tlapoyawa also loves teaching aspiring filmmakers to develop advanced techniques in film making. Recently, he announced that he will be conducting a film workshop, “The $40 Film School,” along with another filmmaker, Chris Dillon. The workshop will be on Saturday May 14th at Burning Paradise Video.
