Toy Story 3 Dominates 2010 Box Office

Toy Story’s much-anticipated third sequel seems to have exceeded expectations in the cinematic industry last year. Produced by Buena Vista, Toy Story 3 was named by as the highest grossing film of 2010, earning $415 million after playing in at least 4000 theater nationwide.

The sequel depicts our beloved characters’ quest for a new home, as Andy has to go to college and abandon his toys. They accidentally end up on an orphanage and meet a whole other bunch of toys led by Lotso’, an old purple-pink teddy bear who loves hugs. Yet when Andy’s toys complain about things, they discover the unlovable side of Lotso’, and they then struggle to escape and go home to Andy.

Disney’s remake of Alice in Wonderland came in at second place with $334 million. Closely behind are Iron Man 2 and Twilight Saga: Eclipse, grossing $312 million and $301 million respectively.

Fan favorites Inception and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 tied on the fifth place, grossing a total of $293 million. Universal’s Despicable Me totaled $252 million and came in at seventh place. Shrek Forever After, the fourth and last sequel in the series, came in at eighth after earning $239 million.

Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon and Disney’s Tangled round out the top 10, grossing $218 million and $193 million respectively. Five flicks in the top 10 are animated and family friendly, and thus animated films prove to rule the last year’s box office.
